Discord alerts

Alerts can post into a Discord channel through a webhook, which suits communities and teams that live in Discord. PingArk posts a message when a check goes down and another when it recovers.

Prerequisites

A Discord server where you can manage a channel and create webhooks.

Setup

  1. In Discord, hover the target channel and click the Edit Channel gear.
  2. Open Integrations, then Webhooks, and click New Webhook.
  3. Name it, confirm the channel, and click Copy Webhook URL. It starts with https://discord.com/api/webhooks/.
  4. In PingArk, open Channels, click Add channel, pick Discord, paste the URL into Webhook URL, and save.

Config fields

FieldWhat to enter
Webhook URLThe channel webhook URL from Discord, starting https://discord.com/api/webhooks/.

As with Slack, there is no verification step, because the webhook URL is the proof of ownership. The channel is ready as soon as you save. Click Send test in the add-channel modal to post a test message before you save, then send more from the channel's menu whenever you like.

What an alert looks like

PingArk posts DOWN with the check name and reason when it fires, and UP with the check name when it recovers.

Troubleshooting

Deleting the webhook in Discord makes delivery fail, and PingArk flags the channel so you notice. Recreate the webhook and update the channel to restore it. Keep the webhook URL private, since anyone who holds it can post to your channel.
